According to the Star on November 19th, the Malaysian Minister of Health confirmed that the Public Health Smoking Product Control Act 2023 (GEG) will be submitted before the end of the parliamentary session on November 30th.
GEG seeks to prohibit anyone born on or after January 1, 2007 from using tobacco and e-cigarette products.
Although Dr. Zaliha Mustafa, the Minister of Health, implemented this plan, Attorney-General Amo Trirudin Mohamed Saleh pointed out that the bill violates Article 8 of the Malaysian Constitution as it creates unequal treatment before the law between people born before and after that date.
